Hi guys I have replaced tye gasket between engine and exhaust. Only a few weeks later the gasket was blowed out again. With a sportive sound as a result. I was thinking of making the three piece manifold gasket out of copper? Hope this is a bit more resistant and holding longer. Has someone done this before and is it wise to do regarding heat influences? Any thought about this would be appreciated.
It is always an option to buy a NOS gasket.
Thanks in advance,
Rik

Re: exhaust manifold gasket
The NOS ones are asbestos, much better.
I had issues and had the manifolds done, side of the head machined, etc. It lasted about 2 years (~4000 miles)
There are a couple of things that I have done that have worked out well:
1. The muffler is not hard mounted. The motor moves a little and the down pipe is a big lever on the manifold. With the 3 bolt flange there is no give. I do not have any problems like this with my Chevys. They have a donut so it acts like a ball joint.
2. I basically gutted the muffler to reduce the back pressure to almost nothing so there is less stress on the gasket set.
Your mileage may vary...
Good luck and tell us how you make out.

Re: exhaust manifold gasket
Hi dr. Deuce,
Thanks for your advice. Have made a copper gasket. Made it out of 2mm red copper. roughly cut out the shape heated the copper to soften it. and then grinded in correct and final shape. sorry no pictures of the end result was verry enthusiatic and forgot the make pictures.
Till now so far so good. only a minor leakage at one exhaust think i have to tighten it some more.
