horn button

Post by air1klrMD11 »

The wired spring loaded contact under the horn button is not attached to anything except the wire going down the steering shaft. The insulator is there, but nothing keeps the contact down so its not in continuous contact with the big copper button. What and how is this assembly go together? I've got a horn repair kit, but no instructions.

I appreciate any help, procedures, or pictures.

The spring loaded contact mounted through the micarta disc gets power to the large metal disc that fits in the horn button. When the button is pressed contact is made between the edge of this disc and the cup opposing it that is secured by the steering wheel nut. The cup and disc are held apart by the large spring which is insulated from them with a paper ring.
This is all from memory but I believe it to be correct.

Just in case you can't figure what I'm referring to.
There were two horn button kits supplied. One had everything in it and the other just the button and a few of the parts. What have you?

Ahhhh, my CCKW did not have a paper insulator installed. I put it in from my repair kit and now my horn works!!

I couldn't find a picture of that assembly anywhere.

Thanks!!!
