Demountable brake drum

My GMC (from Norwegian stock) has demountable brake drums on third axle, non-demountable on middle axle and one of each on the front. So far I was pretty sure this is result of some army fixing when no one cared about unity of parts as long as vehicle was operable. However recently I have seen similar set up on some other GMC. Is it just coincidence or there was some logic behind it ?. Any idea ?

The changeover to demountable brake drums on the production line for the CCKW axle assemblies would have been accomplished in a very short time and I doubt there would have been many if any trucks built with a mixture of both types. There has been plenty of opportunity in the 70 odd years since production ceased for the mixing of types to have taken place and I'm sure that is the reason for what you have seen.
