Looking for info on the Chevy NK-G-7113

Title and pictures say it all. I would like to know if anyone has any info on this truck and trailers it pulled, and if there are any plans available for it and where I could find more pictures. A google search doesn't bring up much. How close is it to the CCKW? I would like to do a conversion in 1/35 scale to this truck and am hoping I could use a CCKW kit to start from.

TM9-2800 has some data From Portrayal Press
The trailer I think is 3 1/2 ton semi and is 201" long
Basically they they were a 1 1/2 ton chevy with a fifth wheel plate
They were built with provisions for trailer brakes (electric) I read somwhere that some had an air compressor installed but I can't remember where.

The wheel base is 145" for the "tractor"
You could model them using
Italirie (sp ) tanker kit ( using the hard cab )
and you will need the banjo axles from the DUKW kit ( the tanker has splits) the hood louvers you can modify (sand off ), the rest in 35th scale would be fine
The trailer you will have to scratch build I'm afraid.
Wheels and tires same as the CCKW kits

The trailers had vacume brakes that ran off of the hydrovac with an interesting single hose arrangement to the trailer. You can do the same with a CCKW or any hydrovac where you can get to the vac line that changes from vac to atmosphere.

Thanks gents! A question about the banjo/split axle designs, did they look pretty much identical from the side? As this is going to be 1/35 I was thinking about just modifiying the split axle that comes with the CCKW kit, it doesn't look that hard (I say this now

).

One last question for tonight, was there ever a 1 1/2 ton Chevy truck with an open cab, or was every single one made with the steel cab?

Gar Wood used the Chevrolet chassis with open cab for swinging-boom bomb trucks for the US Navy.

The Chevy 1 1/2 ton cargo trucks all came from the factory as hard cabs.
But post war examples of Chevys with the open cab as used on CCKWs do exist
And Uncle Sam's mechanics did modify vehicles for specific jobs.
The Chevy bomb trucks were an open cab design but they didn't use the CCKW style cab but rather a cut down cab mostly consisting of the cowl and floor pan. I am unsure as to what vehicle the windshield came from.

I have some information indicationg that in 1944, there were a small number of "Truck, 1-1/2 Ton, Cargo, Airborne (Chevrolet NJ-G-7107) Modified" produced. Unlike the open cab CCKW, the hard cab appears to have been chopped immediately behind the wiper motor header, and also above the belt line at the rear of the cab. In addition the cab modifications, there were also mods made to the frame, and there was a kit available with the brake line shut-off valves, fisch plates etc. so that the truck could be split in two. I have no indication that this modification was ever done to the model 7113 tractors. I have one of the original manuals for the tractor at thome, and I know that it had two supplemental parts lists. One list of additional parts required for the tractor, and another list of the parts NOT required. I'll have to get it out and see what it shows for the fifth wheel plate, spare tire bracket, brake boosters etc.

I'll let you know what I find...

The Bomb Truck cowl and windshield is unique to that truck. It is narrower than the CCKW. The rear floorpan/riser is basicially the same as the closed cab chevy with some minor mods.

Years ago I bought a brand new riser/floorpan from Marty Fravel from VA. Why the givmint ever made/had extras of these is beyond me....

BTW the rear view mirror on the windshield give you a great view of the winch mounted on the rear boom and that is about all
