Milled out flanges for front axle.

Post by Ed Bennett »

I have ordered a set of milled-out flanges for the front axle of my 1942 CHEV 1 1/2 ton from Bob at VOV. The benefit is that the front wheels will not be turning the differental, thereby saving on wear & tear and fuel useage; with increased power and easier steering. Bob says that the flanges can be changed back to the originals in about 5 min. I'll post again when I have tried them out.

I like the new flanges. The truck does seem to steer a little easier. I do believe that it will save wear and tear on the parts. They change out easily, and do not change the looks.

If you drive it any distance, it will save:

Front brakes from getting oiled
knuckle seals
wear on front axle parts

and

it will be quiter
you will get better gas mileage (lord knows we can use that these days!) :D

BTW: I got 10 mpg the other day with my M6 Chev Bomb Truck with neutered front hubs towing the M5 Bomb Trailer (3100 lbs empty) with the 550 lb "gadget" on it. I thought that was pretty good. That was going 50 mph one way on the flat road and 35 mph on the hilly bypass road on the way back.
