!!!!Manifold Gasket Warning!!!!

Post by dr deuce »

I just bought a replacement intake/exhaust manifold gasket set for my M6 Chev Bomb Truck with a 50's Chev engine and used the number I had so that the local auto parts store could order one without having to look it up.

When I double checked with them that it fit ~1950 thru 1962, they said that it fit 1939 thru 1962. BZZZTTT. That is not true!!!! The gasket set I got was for a 1950-1962 which is what I wanted, but if you have an original WW2 chev engine or 1939-1949 engine, the margin on the intake gasket is virtually zero as the later engines had larger intake ports hence more power.

Be careful!!!!

I do not know what the other part number is or even if it is available. I also do not know if Jim Carter or Chevy's of the 40's carrys them.

I think your post just solved my problem. I have a late model 235 1962 that i am going to install one of these days. I have thought of useing the ww2 manifold because it has the horn mount cast on it. And the exhaust exits at the correct angle. I guess i can forget about useing the ww2 manifold.

Hello All,

Click on this link and you can view a small video clip which will give you a trick to verify the sealness of the intake manifold gasket with a starting up stuff. If the RPM increase when we vaporize directly on the gasket, it means that the intake manifold is not perfectly sealed. The video clip is at the bottom of the page.
