Help! What year is my Chevy Earth Auger ?

Post by 66swede »

I have this old Earth Auger truck that probably was sold to the Swedish army as surplus after WW2. In the old Swedish title the model year is not mentioned, only the WIN number: 9NR46-1468
Is it possible to find out what year it was built?

You can find an excellent resource for these Checy trucks here:

http://vehiclesofvictory.com/chevy-g506/specifications/

According to the chart, your truck was built...

9 - in Norwood, Ohio, USA
NR - model G7163, Telephone Body, with earth borer (from SNL G-506)
46 - in October, 1944
1468 - was the 1,468 unit produced.

Needless to say, I am very jealous! That looks like a VERY complete, original example of a realtively rare truck! :D

More photos PLEASE!

Thanks a lot! The Chevy seames to be a rare thing here in Sweden anyway. It is very complete, except for the engine and gearbox, but I think that should be possible to find.
Theese old american warriors (I also have a GMC CCKW with a Swedish cabin) are new to me, but I find it really interesting to learn new stuff. My other vehichles are all Volvo...

If you haven't found it yet, check out this page on the vehicles of victory site.

I have a model G7117 (cargo with winch). If you look at production numbers, there were over 112,000 cargo models produced, and only 1,719 auger trucks. Your truck is not just rare in Sweden, it is rare everywhere!

I have one too! Mine is a 1945. There are more moving parts in an auger truck than in 2 CCKW's!!!!!!!!

Concentric ring an pinions TIME 2!
Chains, gear boxes

Remember that the xfer is different on the auger truck. Power goes thru it to run the auger and rear winch

Wonder how many there are left... Seames hard to find them on the internet anyway.

Thinking of selling mine, but I dont know... Maybe I´ll regret it.

Do you know of any more out there?

I might have located the original gearbox for mine! I´ll know later this week. Would be greate.
