chevy weight
I found another G-506 today, it looks mostly complete, except the bed of course, but for $100 I can complain, now I have to figure out how I'm going to get it home, I have a car trailer but it might be a little narrow, but the big concern is the weight ,I find it interesting that in just about every one of Fred Crismons vehicle descriptions he usually gives a weight, but none of his description for the G-506's gives a weight, he give a couple other 1 1/2 ton 4X4's at around 6500 pounds so I have to assume the chevy is about the same, but I'm sure someone knows exactly what one would weigh, I don't think it has a winch and it has a civilian flat bed on it, how about it? Thanks Bob.

Re: chevy rescue
My wife and I made a quick trip over to the little bitty town of Pentura UT and picked up the Chevy,I got lucky and they had a back hoe to load the truck, the van did a great job once we got up the 8% grade, the truck is rough but has a lot of good pieces, I need the front axle for my other Chevy I hope to get home this spring. Where is the serial number on these trucks, is there some way to determine the build date? It does have the round grill so I think it's earlier, the data plates are all there but they are rusty and I can't read them.

Re: chevy weight
Bob the serial number is only on the "plate" unless the truck was a post war european rebuild then in that case, it MAY be stamped on one of the frame rail ends ( depending on the jobber )
The numbers were stamped into the plate ,often times you can make out the numbers from the back with some careful "flat filing" That's how I found my trucks serial number and date of delivery.
Hope this helps

Re: chevy weight
The photo of the Chevy behind the E350 (?) is encouraging. Did you happen to weigh the truck and trailer before offloading? Do you happen to know whether your trailer is rated for 7000lb or 10000lb (or perhaps more)?
$100 sounds like a pretty good buy.

Re: chevy weight
The trailer was built for one of those big ditch witch machines, it has a massive frame, only problem is it's narrow, some times I have to lube the tires to get things past them, and it is just barely long enough to get my 73-F250 super cab onto, I;ve pulled home dozens of vehicle with it,it may be ugly but it gets the job done. I didn't have a set of scales handy, I wish I had but then again maybe it's better to not know some things!

Re: chevy weight
Thanks for responding Bobc. I had better just plan on using a 10,000 pounder (min.) to move one.

Re: chevy weight
the doors are civilian I think since they have the locks inside, but they are perfect and I'll bet the outer door is the same, I'm still trying to get my project truck down here so I'll be able to see what I'm going to need off this one, there are a lot of good parts, especially in the engine compartment, it looks completely stock!
