The Van you have is ST-6 Automotive Repair, Load B' It has to do with the Tools and Machinery capabilities. Shielding requirements made the elaborate shielding system necessary on late Chevrolet 4X5, CCKW and DUKWs. SNL G-139 will shed light on the Shop tools for Automotive Repair Load "B".

I have all of this somewhere, but it has been years since i was familiar with the information.
I was trained as a Machinist at aberdeen Proving Ground.

My information on Load "A", for example is that the Tools supplied give "A" the capability to Reface Valves, Grind Valve Seats, Hone Cylinder Walls, Install Piston Rings, nstal Piston Pins, Align Rods, Install Main Bearings, Install Rod Bearings, Do tune Ups, Relign Brake Shoes, Align Front Ends, Rebuild Wheel/Master Cylinders, Replace Valve Stems in Inner Tubes, Straightent Front Axles, etc. The trucks were packed with Tools and had School trained personell. Will work on "B" information when I get a chance. Load B" would have been set up for Welding, Pressing Bearings, repairing Starters, generators, and would have General Blacksmith Tools, like Blow Torches, Soldering Irons, Nuts and Bolts, etc.

I was assinged a Couse Van MEDL mounted on a LWB M-46 REO Chassis that had sides that jacked up, but this was for Engineers, not Ordnance.

I've sent 85 photos to bill. I sent them in one large file so it may take him awhile to do anything w/ them as the file was huge.

How bad did setting all those years affect the engine. It looks like it will need lots of preparation before battery and fuel are tried..

We aren't even going to attempt it until we thoroughly go through the system. While very original, this truck does need lots and lots of work.

Of course! If you want to donate parts, you can send them to me, Chris, Mike(41CCKW), or the museum directly and if you want to donate money, I'll have to get all of the info for the museum so you can make it out to them.

As far as the box on the truck goes, well, lets just say that natural light is not an issue. It now has several skylights. For now, the main concern is documenting everthing.

Hi

I also have a CCKW Shop Van, ST5, chassis number 359616-1, it was ex-Nowegian, truck has been through a overhaul in Germany, lots of metric bolts  , and a closed cab. I have now swopped the closed cab for open, as like yours, it would have had a open cab. Mine has no heater system but has workbenches and many drawers, made by National Farm Machinery. Indiana. Its under restoration at present and having all those dreadful metric bolts replaced by unified or original as an when I can find them.
CCKW 352-399807-B1. No 7 Set Fitted.
CCKW 353-359616-1. Shopvan. ST5.
Dodge WC53 Carryall 81577831(Sold)
Gemco 1/4 Trailer 1879.
CCKW Cab (only) under restoration.
