CCW Sand Tires

Post by Cat Man »

Purchased a WWII soldiers photo album at an estate sale. It contained this interesting photo and some others of an early CCW with the non driving front axle and the oversize NDCC tire and 2 piece combat rim.

The equipment belonged to the Seventh Photo Tech Squadron USAAF. Stationed in Calcutta India in the CBI Theater from May 1944 onward. The unit has an interesting logo on the bumper, A lighting bolt crossing a leaning palm tree. There are other photo's of a mixed fleet of open and closed cab CCKW's and at least one other CCW. Most with standard 7:50X20 tires.

This adds more historic data for GMC collector. Does anyone know what or why the hood number starts with a "V" prefix? It reads V-41803.

Cheers

Thanks Cat Man for posting the photo
of the CCW. War time pics of
these trucks are rare.
I own a 42 CCW.
Thanks again.

Those wheels look very much like DUKW wheels so would the tyres be 9.00 x 20 ?
Don't say can't as anything is possible with time and effort.
