Kitchen Truck
For the experts out there can you tell me what the equipment list was for a Kitchen Truck. When my 352 arrives this is something I am possibly looking at doing for exhibiting at shows. I know they carried three cabinet units, range, field M1937 but I would like to know what else, I have the picture that someone posted the link to - so can see mainly what it carried but I am not sure what the big cabinet is for along with the loading for cooking equipment. I will attach the picture of the truck so everyone will know what I am talking about. Regards Steve

Re: Kitchen Truck
Hi Kev,
The 514th seem to be a major exhibitor - would my truck be useful as part of your group especially if I manage to track down all the equipment - apart from that I am not that far away from you. Steve

Re: Kitchen Truck
Hi Steve,
Sorry I missed your first inquiry about how to equip a CCKW as a field mess truck. These evolved from using field ranges in railroad troop trains. There are some early non military mess managment books that show some photo's of closed cab CCKW field conversions.
TM 10-405 "The Army Cook" (mine is dated 1946) has a chapter that shows different views of the Mess Truck arrangments and the arrangment of the 1 Ton trailer. The trailer was required to haul the water heaters and cans and tarps and poles and other mess gear not in use on the road.
In the 1950's mess manuals there are complete drawings and specifications for fabricating the items to outfit the M135 and M211 trucks. The box is slightly wider than the CCKW on these kitchen trucks . It is a lot to scan and post. If you or anyone else is interested let me know and I will post the photo's or send them to you.

Re: Kitchen Truck
I had an uncle who was a cook in the 3rd Army. He had a truck like this and occassionally they would have an 'issue' with one of the burners and have to take a hooked device al pull it out and drag it to the back of the truck and dump it out....
