Is this an F-3 or L-2 CCKW?
Could you please take a moment, view these pictures and let me know if you think this is a F-3 or an L-2 airfield service truck.
All pictures can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rlb_photog ... 671430322/
My guess is that it is a L-2 due to the vessel between the cab and tank taking up space that could be used for the other 90 gallons.
Thank you for your time!
~Robert
PS - I will also be posting these on g503.com and steelsoldiers

Re: Is this an F-3 or L-2 CCKW?
The pipe terminating above the spare tire, and the lack of the vent pipes and bracket on the forward end of the body leads me to believe it is an L2
The piping and hose reel layout is different on my F3 than what your photos show
I posted my comments on the G as well
I've been wrong before ...so I 'm curious to hear other users comments as well
Hope this helps
John

Mine does not have the vent either above the tire.
If i remember right, the non-gasoline version had the fuel-fired heater in the compartment above the reel cabinet on the passengers side.

I'm thinking the pictured truck might be the "Lube service truck' formerly owed by Chet Krause....the same truck is pictured in David Doyles book Standard Catalog of US MVs 2nd edition on page114.
Hope this helps

Good eyes John, you get the gold star for the day! It is one and the same. Just trying to verify that it is a lube truck instead of a fuel truck that many people have told me it is.John V Cliche wrote:I'm thinking the pictured truck might be the "Lube service truck' formerly owed by Chet Krause....the same truck is pictured in David Doyles book Standard Catalog of US MVs 2nd edition on page114.

Well it's a tanker...so everyone assumes it carries fuel
Most also, can't imagine that an aircraft would require enough oil to warrent needing a specific truck to deliver it.
John
BTW it is also pictured in David's CCKW Walk Around Book

Re: Is this an F-3 or L-2 CCKW?
When you look at the two different listings in the WWII TM9-2800 they are the same RA PD 309031photo illustration. But if you look at the outline drawings at the bottom of the pages, look at the different profile in the rear views. The fuel truck is shown with a taller sheetmetal cabinet on the right hand side. The lube truck left and right side are symetrical.
So that tells me that the truck that dogtags is looking at is in fact the F-3 fuel tank version.

Here is what the pump compartment interior with gage, hose reel, and manifold looks like on an F3.... scoll down to the 5th post ( by Bill Wolf) for 2 views
http://www.cckw.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2938
As you can see it differs substantially from the pump compartment ( linked ) in Dogtags original post.
Hope this helps

Is that photo of the driver's or passenger's side. All photos I posted were of the passenger's side. I didn't think of taking any of the drivers side. I guess I should have.John V Cliche wrote:Here is what the pump compartment interior with gage, hose reel, and manifold looks like on an F3.... scoll down to the 5th post ( by Bill Wolf) for 2 views

My guess is that is the driver's side as it looks like a low cabinet, or else it is the low passengers side cabinet of the oil truck...

That is a photo of the passenger side compartment......BUT....the drivers side compartment consists of all the same equiptment, and is identical in size, shape, and construction.dogtags wrote:Is that photo of the driver's or passenger's side.
