How many of you CCKW owners have taken part in a parade or a show, and had persons approach you and ask if the truck belongs to the National Guard? The average person in a crowd is not aware of differences in 6X6 trucks over the years. Be nice to them, they mean well. I spend many hours each year at local Museums giving short lectures on Army Transportation. It is a great feeling to drive a truck that shares your birthdate, the downside is that as my truck improves with age, I am the one that is wearing out.

Joel, I am like you. The truck runs a lot better than me, and it is probably better shape than it has been in years, while I am in worse shape. I have had the same problems in parades, because all people see is a big green truck. A lot of people don't realize that average citizens can do own vintage military vehicles.
When I set up a display with my truck, I include the pictorial restoration of the old beast from dragging her out of a sand pit, where she rested for 30 years through the step by step process untill finished. Most people assume you bought the truck just like that from the Army. The Deuce and a Half in a Crate story.
