OPERATION FARMYARD

Post by KiwiKev »

Recently we had an event over a long weekend combining the local branch (Auckland) of the New Zealand Military Vehicle Collectors Club and the local Reenactor groups (Historical Reenactment Society and Military Reenactment Society).
It was held at a local members farm who had originally thought of having a miniature Beltring style event, this being the first time we had organized a combined event we decided to keep it to small numbers with about 30 Reenactors and around 20 Military vehicles including two GMC's and no public.
A great weekend was had by all and with several good ideas for the future we will be starting to plan for Operation Farmyard 08 next week.
Attached hopefully is a couple of photos of the Jimmy's. The Workshop truck was imported into NZ about 8 years ago from Europe and has been kept as it arrived with only maintenance work being carried out.
The tipper has only recently been fully restored, It appears it was the last GMC that was reconditioned in New Zealand for the US Government to be used back in the Pacific. It was then purchase by a GT Gillies, along with ALL of the other surplussed GMC's and ALL of the parts at the end of the war. I will go into that story another time. However this tipper was also GT Gillies last complete truck which was sold about 12 months ago to the current owner. The markings on the truck are for one of the US Army groups that was based in the area that we had Operation Farmyard just north of Auckland.
