DIRECTIONAL LIGHTS ON TACTICAL TRUCKS

Post by joel gopan »

They were not factory installed until the mid 60s.
M-Series trucks 2 1/2 ton and up got them first. Retro fit kits were issued at that time, also. First 1/4 Tons to get them were M-151A1.

There were times when commercially avaible lights were installed on the WWII trucks and M-series. Usually the wreckers.
The WWII tractor Trailer Tactical vehicles had none, hand signals were the norm. Military drivers were well disciplined and aware of other traffic than many collectors are today. The Army has punishment for acting stupid.
Drive on an active military reservation, observe the traffic observing those 10 MPH, and 20MPH signs.
I drove at these same speeds on DOW AFB for 20 years after it was closed(1968). Just good habit left over from the military.
