http://www.footnote.com has free introductory access to their site. Citing it as The Largest WWII Collection Online they have hundreds of thousands of never before seen photos garnered from Vets and Photo repositories.
I plugged in my Dad's name and basic info and sure enough his enlistment records came up including his serial number. They are like a WIKI and allow you to add info and pictures but you can only do so after a hefty subscription price. I plugged in my Uncles info (a career officer in the 1st inf, Omaha, Falaise, Battle of the Bulge, etc) and got no return hits...so it is not fool proof.
Their high resolution picture library is very good with many pics I have never seen before. The one below shows the setup of the first airfield in France during or after Overlord. You will see tons of trucks including a Series 325 Chevy Fire Truck (behind the bikes). Way in the background is a large Dozer with what looks like a drop mount scraper that it tows (above the jeep rear seat).
I have lowered the res on the below pic to expedite load times. I have also posted the direct link for hi-res where you can magnify individual areas of the picture to check out the equipment.
Another great site that you can spend hours at. This was what the internet was made for!!!!
