It is an Airfield F-3 Refueling, or L-2 Airfield Lube Oil truck, they are desireable to advanced collectors, as some want variations to every day Cargo CCKW. Long way to ship from, cheaper by boat.

Man transportation costs would be high, but like Joel said, boat might be the only choice like the stuff coming out of Europe.

Cost is relative, if I wanted a truck like that I would find the money regardless of the cost. It is more fun to have a hobby when one is young enough to enjoy it, instead of when the nursing home is around the corner.Isn't that what a hobby is all about? One cannot pin a price on happiness.

Guess I am an Advanced Collector....!

I have one in better shape than that one. That one is missing the spare tire carrier that mounts on the back in front of the tank.

They have reels in the compartments for hoses, big beautiful gauges for keep track of what was pumped. They have a PTO driven gasoline/fuel pump. You can suck fuel out of an undeground tank.

Hey, with the price of gas.... Hmmm

Mr Wolf wants me to paint it airfield yellow! It will be OD like the pictures I have of them in the Pacific!

Yellow is also WWII, OD with white marking was more common. I have witnessed both on USAAF CCKW Refueling trucks. Yellow would last longer. FYI, The CCKW Hard Cab is Post WWII, the fact that it has a hard cab, allows gives credibility to the legitimate use of Yellow or OD.

Now a tanker in yellow is one sexy truck. I could go for that, but I will never paint my cargo truck yellow, even if it was used by the Air Force. :lol:
Joel you are right about costs when it comes to a hobby, but then not all people in this hobby are wealthy, thereforethey have to take transportation costs as well as initial cost in the vehicle into consideration.
I hope this does not turn into a hobby just for wealthy collectors, like the Military Aircraft hobby did. In the 60's and 70's there were serious collector/pilots that could afford a Stearman or T-6, then as more wealthy people got interested in the hobby the other guys were squeezed out because they could not compete mlney wise. I would sure hate to see that happen in the military vehicle scene.

We all seek our level, but what is great is to see all these trucks proudy owned, and done to the best of their ability. I have helped many with their trucks and Jeeps, and that is fun too.
