Markings on lamp bowls.
Hi guys,
Has anyone else got makers markings stamped into the rear end of their headlamp bowls? I have a set marked GUIDE MADE IN USA and the rusted ones which I removed from my truck which are un-marked.
I know Guide were a GM owned company so it follows that CCKW lights would be made by Guide, but I wonder if the bowles which are un-marked are earlier, later, made by another company or even post war euro copies.
I would be interested to hear what others have.
Matt.

We don't do much about saving history, even those great plants. That is why we are so important to the future. We save history by restoring and keeping these old warriors of ours running and telling people about their roles during WWII.

headlight buckets
G'day Guys!
All my CCKW's and Chev trucks have headlamps marked...."Guide Made in USA." No European rebuilds here in Australia! Only original USA made parts.

Thanks everyone for your replies!! I have two pairs of headlamps, the NOS pair is marked GUIDE MADE IN USA at the rear end of the body(the GUIDE is in script) and the bracket which is rivited to the housing also has GUIDE MADE IN USA but this is stamped in capitals.both stamps have GUIDE in the center with MADE IN USA in a circle around it.
The rusted out pair I have removed from my CCKW compressor truck have the guide stamp on the bracket just like the NOS pair but they don't have it on the light body. There are also some small design differences between the NOS and rusted lights such as the style of rivets is different etc.
All CCKW's would have been fitted with Guide lights from the factory, but if a light was damaged in service it would be replaced with any maker,eg CB,Arrow etc.

I'll have to check my brackets I didn't look there cheers Matt great info.
Anyway one of my lights was shot off by a German sniper on Omaha beach whilst struggling through the surf and sand, the brackets and the other light was blown away by an ME 109 flown by Adolf Galland just before it was shot down by a Spitfire flown by Douglas Bader close to the beach, the resulting crash and fire caused my front bumper to bend and removed the original unit markings. .
