Oilpan Question
Will the military oil pan { two piece } work on a 1954 civilian 270 and can you change the oil pickup to the pump { cut and reweld or bolt on } also what would be a good choice for a carburetor. I found a nice 270 out of a 1954 fire truck with around 20,000 miles, I'm going to keep looking for 302 & 270's in my area .Thanks

I can't help on the oil pan question, however you would be wise to use the Zenith carburator originally designed for the engine.

I'm with Armydriver on the carb.You can't beat the Zenith.You may allready know this but the 1954 270 motor mount is different on the front than the pre 1950 I bought one on e-bay to have a spare. The guy has 9 more I'm sure he will list them again. They are hard to come bye.

I believe that the later 270, like the later Chev 235 use a bigger carb
mounting flange. The carb should be easy enough to come by. Look in
antique car and truck flea markets or in Hemmings
I believe that the oilpan will work with the CCKW pickup plumbing.
One thing you will get is a flat flywheel! Depending upon what it is drilled for, you could use up to a 1974 Chev Corvette 11" clutch and get rid of that troublesome GMC clutch

I hope that's a good thing , i haven't ever done a motor swap in the CCKW's before but would like to retain the oil pan if for no other reason " looks ". Hopefully one day we could get a forum going with some detail pic's of these swaps.
