Buy/Rent/Borrow valve adjusting tool

Post by pfarber »

I am looking for the valve adjusing tool (correct WWII or later, don't care) for the GMC 270.

IF there is a modern pn for cross referance that would be good also.

Pfarber, traditionally valve adjustment has been done by using a large screwdriver and a ring spanner. You dont NEED special tools.

I have done mine inthe past with just a box end wrench and screwdriver. Make sure the engine is hot. I put cardboard in front of the radiator to get it a bit hotter (simulating pulling a long hill etc). Turn the idle down very low.

Here is where glueing the valve cover gasket to the head helps. It will help prevent an oily mess all over everything. Clean the head and apply gold permated gasket cement and put the gasket onto it and install the valve cover. I usually let it sit overnight to make sure it is set before removing the cover. Don't put it on the cover side.

I know but I wanted that tool to throw in the tool box.

Does anyone know if the GPW valve adjusting tool would fit the GMC engine?
