G-518 Ben Hur

Post by Karoshi »

Does anybody know the origin of how the Ben Hur was so named ? Was this a title known to have been applied 39-45 ?

So, does anyone have an official "period" reference to the g-518 being called a Ben Hur? So much easier to say than: Trailer, 1 ton, cargo, 2-wheel.

I have been told it was "nick-named" that for 2 reasons.

1. The company who made the largest number of them, Ben Hur Manufacturing Company (like Band-aids. aspirin, and Jimmys),

and

2. the extravagant movie of the times... Ben Hur (1925). A huge favorite of the times.

And it sounds a lot cooler than G-518.
