CCKWX
Hello,
I am french and I just found and buy a GMC.
It is a CCKWX 353 Closed cab, serial number 10132, short body and registration number 424968 (original on the hood).
I am beginner on GMC, I need some help :
Who can tell me the date of production and if this truck have a civilian panel or a military panel. I need to know if the blackout at the left of the véhicule is on the grill or near the headlight.
And at the end, I would like to find some picture of the same truck.

Hi
I have a CCKWX serial no' 9991-A1, your truck should have the blackout on the grill and have a civilian instrument panel. As to when built, I think late 1940 or early 1941, perhaps someone else on here could verify that.
According to GMC Trucks at War, there was a batch of CCKW trucks built with registration no' 424590 thru 425669, your truck is within that range, I think also your truck has no winch?.
If this is correct your truck details has helped me, as only 141 difference in serial no', with a registration no', which mine did not have.
Your truck should also have the early brake system, master cylinder on the outside of chassis.
Would be interested in pictures of your truck, I could e-mail some of mine, not sure hoe you put pictures on here.

My english is not perfect, I try to be clear.
My truck have no winch, you are good, and there is a plate behind the left door for hydrovac. I did not take down any part, I think it is an early model.
The registration number on the hood is original, I find it like star on the door.
I can send you some pictures of my truck. He is unrestored and the panel is missing. I think our trucks have a near production, you can help me for the restoration.
If you want some picture, you must tell me your personnel mail adress, I don't know how to do on this post.

Like I say upper, I need some pictures of same truck for all the details. My truck loose is panel board, I'd like to know some over specification of this closed cab.
This afternoon, I'd confirm he had the spécificity for the brake. I'd find bronze hinge for the hood and chrome windshield under OD.
Do you know if these closed cab have a serial number ?

I have left e-mail addys on a message for you, I will e-mail pictures of my truck once you let me have your address.
The cab serial no' can be found on a plate above the voltage regulator, it should start 1574 then followed by a number, 1574 is the cab type, which yours should be. Your cab should also have a ash tray in the centre.

Just to clarifie something.
These trucks in this batch (part of contract number W-398-QM-8275) was manufactured approximately from mid december 1940 to approximately mid january 1941. A total of 1080 units.
Since they are all CCKWX they all have Timken axles.
And it was not used A1 or B1 after the serialnumbers on the CCKWX series.. And they all was "CCKWX-353" regardles of long or short wheelbase.
And Rob and Richard your two trucks are the only one from this batch in my ever growing list of serialnumbers, so that you both confirm they are with out the winch is great. I guess all trucks in this batch was without winch.
Contrackt number W-398-QM-8275 started 1st nov 1940 and ended 31st jan 1941 witht the last CCKWX delivered (pluss the sole short wb tipper with serialno. 13 188)
In total in this contract it was some 7238 vehicles delivered in 12 different batches acording to my list.
So it helps a lot to get serialnumbers and additional information in to my list.
So keep serialnumbers coming guys!
Also all other data you have on your GMC including engine, cab and body

There was another contract that built short & long wheel base CCKWX trucks, W-398-QM-8266. Of both contracts a total of 1246 short wheel base trucks with out winch were built.
If total trucks of both contracts are added together it makes 13187 CCKWX's built.

When I compare your numbers with my list it ads up like this:

Those pictures show a hood not from a CCKWX. I had a CCKWX and still have the hood and a piece of the cowl.
The CCKWX had the cowl portion of the hinge going straight down the front of the cowl and the hood was notched. The "Y" model Chev hd the same arrangement
I believe that the "X" was for a non-standard GM length (wheelbase)
