Chevy G506 - Status of sheet metal works
Hello All,
You'll find below a picture of the sheet metal works done on the cab for my Chevy. I know, it's a GMC cab because the original one is very rusty and much more heavy to repair. On this cab only the back sheet metal and the corners need to be change. I drew with Autocad the exact shape of the rear rib and manufactured the roller beads by a machine shop. With these tools, I can to replicate on sheet metals the exact shape of the rib. The most difficult work to do was to reproduce the corners because we must to bend and form sheet on two axes of curves. After some tests, we were able to reproduce perfect corners and pictures will follow shortly.
Cheers

I expect to finish this cab in October. Then I'll be able to make parts for those who want them.dr deuce wrote:And when do they go in sale....?
For another cab, I made one and the result is almost perfect.dr deuce wrote:Your next project: Lower cab front corners
You'll find below a short video where my friend Marcel and I are discussing the repair of this cabin. Be careful, you won't understand the dialogue because here in Eastern Canada, we talk a mix of old French and English. Only John V. Cliche and Cajuns in Mississippi will understand us Anyway, pictures are enough eloquent to get the essential of the discussion and to see this video, click on the picture below.

Salut Bill!
Merveilleux work, la! Je me manque de toi and les others pour le BarBQ chez me... lots of 'otdog all dress and les hambougois were waiting pour vous!
For our confused Southern (you all live in the South to us!) cousins... thats an example of the patois you hear in many parts of Quebec and eastern Ontario... many of us are mongrels with mixed french, english, irish and scots blood... usually with some algonquin or iroquois thrown in!

I'm very apologize, we had some problems in Ottawa with a health problem with one of our colleagues. We thought it was a heart attack, but finally it was only a strong heat stroke. We had a good scare.

Hello GMC/Chevy truckers,
You'll find below some pictures of the recent sheet metal works on my Chevy Cab.
Next weekend, I'll grind the excess of weld metal and start polishing so that the joint is ready to receive the thin layer of All Metal. If I have enough time Saturday, I'll weld the hat channels inside the cab. More pictures coming soon.
Cheers from Canada

You might want to make it a week earlier. The Weare NH rally is that weekend and will lessen your turnout. We typically have 100+ HMVsAnother subject for friends in New-England states, the week-end of 29, 30 and 31 july

We assume you will be joining the Akaska Highway convoy in August 2012?
There are three other Chevy's signed up so far. And several MVPA members coming from Eastern Canada. Perfect outing for your project. The 1 1/2 Ton Chevy is the poster child of the project.
Great Work.
Cheers

Hello All,
Work is continuing well and our expertise to forge and weld plates on the GMC / Chevy cab is almost perfect. You'll find below the last pictures taken yesterday when we finished rebuilding the lower back of the cab. We're now at the top and everything should be completed next weekend.
Forging the steel corners using a bead roller
It takes two to make this work
The polishing is done, it only remains to apply the thin layer of platic body
Interior view of the cabin with new galvanized steel reinforcements
My friend Marcel, who seems to say "Look the work of experts"
The final steps of assembly and welding will be completed the next weekend
