My CCKW has a Carter W1 carby, it runs well, but is worn and damaged.
I obtained a spare W1 but it seems unrepairable.
I have a WA1 model in as new condition, when I previously fitted this to
my truck, it would idle but not accelerate.
My question is, Does anyone know if a these carbs are the same?
W1..WA1, especially metering rod and jet size
I tried to research on the net, and it seemed to indicate that the the WA1
is a "universal carb" and the kit for the W1 and WA1 are the same, but not
for sure.
I will also first refit the WA1 and do some tests, I cant see why it should not work better, unless the accelerator pump is not working, OR the metering rod & jets are different.
I am open to opinion as to whether it would be better to use another carb,
Rochester or Stromberg would be a good choice apparently.
I can possibly obtain an original Zenith

My CCKW had a WI Carter that I changed out to a Zenith. I think the Carters were used on the Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck. They will work on the CCKW or at least that one did on mine until it had to be rebuilt, and I got a rebuilt Zentith for it.

Vehicles of Victory has rebuilt Carter W1's for sale at present. I have no working knowledge of the WA1 so I can't help you there.

Hi Tony
AD is right the W1 is a chevy 1 1/2 ton carb you can get a kit for it thru Jim Carter Truck Parts.it will only be needle and seat and gaskets .
The W1 is a cast iron carb and when as you say they are worn out it usually means the throttle shaft and plate will need rebushing and replacement not to mention corrision in the idle pasages as well . In my experience I send them out for a complete professional overhaul.( and a guarantee as well )
There are lots of venders " state side" but I don't about " down under "
The Chevy uses a 235 cu in eng.
The CCKW as you know uses a 270 cu in eng.
So the jetting for the Chevy will be to lean for the CCKW under load conditions ( pulling hills ) but the CCKW will idle just fine with the W1.
But since you are restoring the truck why not go with an original Zenith they are avail ?
Hope this helps
John
