I need to give the machine shop a 'newer' reference for parts for the GMC 270.
They all balk when I say 1943 GMC CCKW.
What 'modern' vehicle reference can I give them for parts (mainly the top end/valve train) that is correct for the 270s in the CCKW's?
Thanks.

There are differences in the WW2 and 50-60's 270 engines that 'may' include the valves. I know the pistons, heads, and intake manifolds are different. I do not know if the valves themselves are different.
I had one of my WW2 heads machined to take the chev 350 valves as recommended by Reg Hodgson in Army Motors ~1991. My machine shop (a racing shop) had no problem doing that.
