What would happen if you removed the hydrovac out of the system completely? I know you would still have brakes. How good would they be?
Has anyone ever put in a after market power brake booster.
I have seen them done on old restored trucks were the master cilinder and power brake booster are conected .
Or what about a later model hydrovac say off of a 1954 Chevrolet dump truck?
Thanks,Matt

There are later series hydro-vacs the single diaphram type Uncle Sam used them as well
I know several of the "return " cckw have them installed also
I got one for a chevy from a company in Oregon ( I don't remember the name.
There is a lot of info concerning the new style hydro-vacs on this site including part numbers also.
Hope this helps

This is what I have used on 2 CCKWs. It is a diaphram type, though newer than the last cckw piston type, there are still 50-60's maybe early 70's. They are a little tough to mount in the same location. A friend of mine mounted his further back under the cargo body. I will do that next time.
I am not sure you can stop a cckw w/o the booster. You need a lot of fluid to open all 6 of those wheel cylinders. The chevy is fine w/o a booster BTW.

Why not just get the original one (be it a type I, type II, or type III) rebuilt? They fit the truck and you do not have to modify things.

I will not use a non-rebuilt NOS one. You get ONE chance to stop.
