clutch problem

A few day ago our truck stoped i could shift gears anymore when the engine was running. After removing the gear-box i could see the broken clutch part.






now i have a new spring but the old one is rivited. Can i replace the rivits wit a nut and bolt? Has anyone done that before? Or should i be looking for new rivits? any advice is welcome.

Hi Rik

I have never done any repairs to a pressure plate
But , in my opinion, if the pressure plate was coming apart like yours I would not try to fix it ,I would replace the entire pressure plate with a new one , or....
Here in the States you can always send out your pressure plate for professional rebuild.I'm sure there are "jobbers" near you as well.

REMEMBER:

Adjust the clutch so that it just barely disengages when the pedal hits the floor. The "free play" at the top does not matter. It is what it is. When there is no more, the disc needs to be replaced.

If you do not adjust the clutch this way, you will overstress the spring which could have been what happened to this one.

I also was thinking of the worst case scenario: I can buy a brand new one so i think i ll do that. To avoid more problems in a later stadium. That will bring our truck back on the road and i can take time to figure out what to do with the broken parts.

I replaced it about 2 years ago, mine was bolted.

I have found a firm that can ribit it. They do also break shoes and that sort of things. If everything goes well i get the new spring ribited wensday. that gives us a few days to assemble it back onto the truck before we drive to Belgium for a long weekend.

Once you have gone to the trouble to drop the gear box to fix the clutch, I would go with brand new, if possible or at least professionaly re-built. Don't put back old parts as long as new are available.
