Huck brakes

Any of you guys contemplate changing the Huck brake system over to the Bendix type? The Stude US6 that we parted out has the Timken split axle with Bendix brakes on the rear. It appears all I would need to do is remove the backing plates and switch the components over. Any thoughts on this. Bendix is a better system and readily available ( I have cylinders in stock) and a whole lot cheaper.

If you are refering to the Bendix type being like the split fronts, I have to challenge there being a whole lot cheaper. The one split truck I have done, I could not get a single kit to rebuild the front wheel cylinders. I would have had to have bought 2 kits and used parts from both to rebuild a single cylinder. I finally sent them to Whitepost to be rebushed and rebuilt.

The Huck brakes are semi-energizing. they have more stopping power than those with a fixed pivot on the bottom and are much easier to adjust. The wheel cylinders are much easier to come buy. You can buy them brand new from Jim Carter and if you have them rebushed with brass or stainless, you pretty much get rid of their main drawback and that is their not being waterproof and rusting inside.
