Where to get canvas for open cab

Post by Lucky Forward »

A little help please
My frustration level has risen a bit in my search for canvas. Other than Beach Wood Canvas who are pricey, I have tried to find a dealer who will help me. I am wanting to replace all the canvas in my open cab CCKW. I have the old canvas but it is well worn but with all the metal. I tried New Life Canvas but I have yet to get a response from Email or a telephone call back. I stated looking at the beginning of the summer. I got through once to New Life Canvas in May and they said they would call me back. Repeated Emails and messages have gone unanswered. Is there anyone still there? So am I missing something or is that the only full service canvas dealers for CCKW's, Beach Wood Canvas and New Life Canvas?

I can only comment on Beachwood Canvas. I had one of their older open 353 canvas cab covers. It was nice but I wanted to get a new one. I did and I am LESS THEN HAPPY with their quality now. The old one was great and the new one is just nice. The straps that are used to hook around the rolled up canvas aren't there since most people don't like them there (according to Beachwood) - well, then it is not to original specifications. Oh, and then they send me the hooks to put on myself - they were bright green - They must be kidding!! I have beachwood on all of my trucks since I got the stuff a few years back, but now I would say proceed with caution when dealing with Beachwood - have them show you the colors of the webbing they are going to use, etc. So sad when you are spending huge money!! I just would like military spec stuff - I know colors varied but if you saw the webbing color, you would laugh or should I say cry.

The one thing about Beachwood is the customer service is there and they do call back on a timely basis.

Just my 2 cents....

My latest order from New Life is directly opposite of my excellent dealings with her in the past.

I placed an order for an Open Cab top and back and seat covers for my 353.

The order was placed and confirmed in November of 2007 with a delivery date of April 2008. I wanted to give New Life plenty of lead time to get it done.

May came around and still no canvas. I called and spoke to Mona who said she had been sick and it would ship in 2 weeks.

Since June I have left over a dozen reminder messages on her answering machine requesting an update and have received no call back. In July the message changed and said they were moving. I still left messages with a request for a return call. Today if you call the number on the website you get a recording to call a different number. Calling that number gets "please leave a message".

I have also sent a dozen or so emails noting that I understood she was moving and was only looking for an estimate as to delivery when they got back to work. The mail was read but no reply's were received.

New Life definitely has the best product although their current customer service is uncharacteristic of what I have received in the past.

Does anyone know what is going on? Are they still in business? Has anyone here received product from them in the last 5 months?

I note that the website is not updated with their after move info...usually a quick thing like that is the first businesses change.

The CCKW is ready to go but has no seats or canvas top. As the HMV season is nearing an end here I guess I won't get a chance to drive it until next year.

Canvas

Post by Cat Man »

My two cents:

I have purchased canvas and webbing from David and Donna Pizzoferrato for several vehicles and have been very pleased. They are located in Ohio and go by the name WeeBee Webbing

I would recommend you give them a try. Contact them at www.odcloth.com. or Call 1888 OD CLOTH. They do what they say and when they say. They do answer their e mail and they attend many of the major HMV shows and events and will deliver your order for show pick up.

All of the the canvas vendors are small Mom and Pop companies so the lead times are always long.

I can never figure out Beachwood's web site and have never had much luck working with them.

As far as Mona at New Life, she is a nice lady and does good work. But I think she far underestimated the business commitment when she bought the company from the previous owners. I gave up and cancelled my orders with her. Too bad.

My canvas vendor of choice is WeeBee Webbing.

I talked with Weebee webbing...very nice folks indeed. They are busy and don't want to do CCKW canvas. I ordered and recieved can straps and pioneer straps. They were good quality and I will do business with them again.

I contacted Beech Wood Canvas. They "called me back!" so I ordered the read cab panel from them. I will try OD Cloth and see what they sau on my other canvas needs and let you know how it went.

I have a closed cab, but I would recommend a local upholstery shop if you have half way decent original to copy. I did this with my Willy's seats and they came out awesome. I know some of you want absolutely perfect OE stuff, but I would suggest considering a decent automotive upholstery shop as they can get the canvas and other components and might get it done a little faster...
