Shock Absorbers Maintenance.

Post by Fernando Mendes »

Fluid level in each shock absorber should be checked every 6.000 miles or annually. How to do :disconnect link between shock absorber arm and axle.Wipe dirt off around filler plug and remove plug.Fill to capacity with light shock absorber fluid.Pull down arm several times to expel air from cylinder.Repeat filling and pumping operation until all air is removed and housing is filled to level of filler hole.Install plug and connect link.

Shock Absorbers

Post by Cat Man »

Hello Fernando,

You raise an interesting point. No one ever checks shock absorber fluid on modern vehicles.

Your experiance makes me want to check the shock absorbers on my CCKW also. But I will wait until spring to do. Too cold here right now.

can anyone tell me what the shock obsorber fluid is? (Brand name)

Is there a modern equivalent and where does one get it?

I need to inspect my knee action obsorbers and see if they merely need to add fluid, or do they need rebuilding.

thanks

You can get "lever action shock absorber fluid " from most of the "British sport car " supply houses ( they use lever shocks also) They also use some of the unique hose clamps found on WW2 vehicles
I purchased a 16oz. bottle from "MOSS MOTORS" several years ago
I'm sure a web search should turn up several possible sources.

Hope this helps
