Guy
Keep in mind that the "235" engine in the 1 1/2 ton Chevy was a "civi" 216 cu in with a few military modifications
The 216 Chevy engines of the late '30's were a "dark charcoal grey "
Bill Hiersh (sp) has the original shade avail. in a high solids engine paint,

That being said..... I have never one seen in that "dark Gray" All the Chevys I have dismanteled ( and there are quite a few ) the engines have been a faded "lite gray" or OD (under all the grease/oil )

Hope this helps
John

PS on my resto I painted the engine with Bill's dark gray then painted OD over it. Right or wrong ?????

Probably you're right. My friend Sylvain Daigle actually rebuilts a Chevrolet CMP C15A. The engine for this truck is a 216 and when he has it sandblasted, we saw appearing the dark charcoal grey under the OD paint.

I think that at the end of the assembly line a last coating of OD was applied everywhere included on the engine. On the next picture, you can see the members of the "Dirty Five" in Quebec during the rescue of this CMP last Fall

Thanks for these informations John.

Hello Stephen,

Here in Quebec, we are about fifty owners of HMVs but I would say that we are approximately about fifteen really active in the collection. For the owners of CMPs in Quebec, there is four known well.

There is Gerry Boucher with his C60L and which is well known by the members of the Green Mountain Military Vehicle Club, Luc Jette with his C15A, the veterans of the 3rd artillery Battery of Montreal with their C15A which tows a limber and a 25 pounds cannon (perfectly operational) and Sylvain Daigle who bought last autumn his C15A.

Most of the collectors of Quebec owns Willys MB, Ford GPW, M38CDN, M38A1, M151A2, Iltis jeeps, Dodge WC, M135CDN trucks and I'm the only one who owns a Chevrolet G7107. Following pictures give a small outline of the military vehicles which we possess. These pictures were taken last summer during the historic and military parade which took place for the 400th anniversary of Quebec city. We were 25 HMVs at this moment.
