New wiring harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine

Post by Hammerhead »

The one thing I didn't replace during the restoration of my CCKW 5 years ago was replace the wiring harness. It appeared to be in good shape and that was one expense I didn't think at the time I would have to do. Well that was a big mistake. It has been one thing after the other with the electrical system. :( So a couple of weeks ago I ordered the wiring harness. It will be set up as two stop lights in the back and the ability to rig up blinkers. I definitely like the suggestions posted on these forums of the blinkers that can be folded up when it's on display. Hopefully the aggravations of the electrical system bugs will be gone and it'll be safer to drive on the roads around here with all the morons on the streets now!

Hi Hammerhead,

I sympathies with you about the morons we have our share here, some people have no patients with old MV's.

Anyway, I've just stripped the original wiring loom from the rear of the truck and was thinking of ordering one from VWM with blinkers, are you going through the original holes in the chassis with the new loom, I found them very tight for he old loom with very little cables is the new one with more cables capable of going through?

If you dont mind me asking what the new loom cost, so I know what to look forward to?

Hi James,
I spoke at length with VWM and he said the new wiring harness will fit exactly as the original harness did. I did order it to have two brake lights in the rear instead of a blackout taillight on the right rear. He said the blinking function in the rear will be with the brakelights. The front will have foldable blinker mounts for those blinkers.
The costs for the basic harness is $900.00 and the additional amt for the blinker/brake light changes is $175.00 for a total of $1075.00. It's a lot of money but I used VWM for my MB, GPW, and WC-54 and the quality of the harnesses and the detailed directions were great.
I've had too many close calls driving my HMV's especially with the CCKW since the visability so poor.
