transmission gears

Post by wartruk44 »

Can anyone tell me what to do about slightly pitted gears where water drained down the gear shift. It had been sitting for 30 years when I got it.

Slightly pitted may be OK, but make sure the teeth are not too pitted as this is the critical point and you don't want one breaking off. I usually use a wire brush to clean up rusted and pitted areas and make the determination as to how bad off the item is. Gears are available and if you can get a new one, I would prefer that. It is judgement call on your part.
