Best way to repair cracked block?

My engine block has some exterior cracks on the driver side in the cylinder area. I am assuming this is from freezing over. I don't want to pull the engine to make this repair. Is JB weld good enough?

Not sure what the max temp for JB weld is... figure it will get at least 2-300 deg on the exterior of the block.

Did you check the closest cylinders for water/antifreeze? If the waterjack froze and cracked the block the freeze plugs need a'looking at (most motors have freeze plugs) and so will the cylinders.

I would probibly worry more about the block expanding/contracting and popping the JB weld out... its only an epoxy and that stuff is not known for its flexibility.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't see any other alternative but to pull the engine and have it rebuilt, with a new block. You can try JB Weld, they claim to be able fix blocks, but I would not trust it on something that important.

Blocks can be welded,but it depends on how serious the damage is,how deep the crack runs etc. you need a real pro welder to do the work who understands the metal he is working with.

If you have no success in finding a welder to do it in the MV world try talking to a guy who restores vintage tractors.

Whatever you decide to do you will need to remove the engine from the truck.

welding causes in most of the times new cracks as the block is of a very old casting sort...
best way is to get it to a repair shop where the do the drill method and drive in steel pens... this is the best way I have seen untill now
