Come on guys.. brake info.. who's got the goods?

Post by pfarber »

It seems that the brake situation for our Jimmys is murky at best.

The Wagner FD-3676 replacement brakes are only available as new units (which is a good thing) or rebuilt (resleeved). They are for all intensive purposes the same price ($70+ shipping).

There is no rebuild kit for the Wagner or the NAPA part number UP3677 brakes. But they appear to take standard 1 1/2 in rubber seals. The cups should not go bad.

So, the following info needs to be discussed:

What rebuild kits include the 1.5in rubber seals?

Do *ANY* rebuild kits exist? What are their PN's?

What is the max bore for a brake cylinder? TM only lists .003-.006 free over the cup diameter.

I have a WAGNER part number for the seal FC-725.. can anyone cross reference that to another available part?

I'll post info as I find it... but would like other input.

I quote myself from the other post

it may interest you to know that the trucks manufactured in Poland in the 50-ties had almost identical rear wheel cylinders (1 ½ inch), since I had all cylinders shot and couldn’t get new one I was considered resleeving but found different solution instead, all these cylinders need to fit is to machine small thread conversion from metric to UNF thread for pipe connection and slight reboring holes in wheel plate because they are mounted with bigger size bolts, apart from that they are identical.

BTW those trucks are called STAR (name deviates from town of Starachowice not star the Star), few pictures here http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_(motoryzacja)
