Electronic ignition
Anyone had the electronic ignition conversion on their CCKW, I'm thinking of installing one on mine to save on distributor maintenance.
What do you think??

I don't drive my truck enough to find that the distributor is a real maintance problem. I have to suppose if the truck is driven regularly, then setting the pints and putting in new condensers could run into a bit of a problem.

Electronic Ignition
Hi,
I have an electronic ignition system in my 6 volt CCKW. It works wonderfully. The engine runs better, better fuel mileage (around 8 mph),
more power and runs cleaner. I run a 40,000 volt coil (looks like the originial but much hotter). This hotter coil allows one to increase the spark plug gap to .031 for more power. The distributor is stock with the exception of two wires coming out of it instead of only one.

FYI...
This issue has been discussed in depth on some of the previous board posts.
Use the search function to help you find those posts.
There is also an extensive tech tip on the main website, written by our own Dr. Deuce, about converting over to 12 Volt. Great info.
I have converted all my driving rigs to 12 volt. They are easier to jump start that way.

Petronix Electronic Ignition
Hi:
I have Petronix Ignitor, part #1167N6, for my electronic ignition and Pertonix Igniter 40,000 volt Coil, part #40011 1.5 ohm, in my 6 volt CCKW. I purchased them through my local NAPA Auto Parts store in Santa Rosa, CA. The wholesale costs were $73 for the ignition and $32 for the coil.
I changed the spark plug gap to .031 and increased the engine's power, its start ability and most of all its fuel economy (from 5.5 to 8 mpg). I have also changed the valve sizes in the head to 350 chevy for both the intake and exhaust, and modifed the air cleaner to a K&N dry filter (removing the interior guts).
Hope this helps.
P.s. My truck is a driver - I have over 15,000 on her in 5 years.
