What colors go on what items under the hood of a CCKW (43 open cab?).
Right now everything is red (former fire truck). So I need manifold, block, head, starter, gen, etc colors.
Thanks.

Engine is "wet olive" color, just like what you see in a jar of olives, Eastwood, I believe has it. The Intake is the same, exhaust manifold is cast iron color, but I like to paint it OD and the paint cooks into a protective protective color that does not seem to rust. Generator/Starter, Distributor, Oil Filter upper and lower straps are S.G. Black. Oil Filter body/cover is GM Orange, and the Breather for the Oil Fill Pipe can be either Gloss Black, or OD. (There are NOS Oil Filters available in OD with Decal)

Uh,Uh,
Even the Gov't Rebuilt blocks (US) were OD .
I would just put the 24087 Spray cans to it. Eastwood would be my choice of paint for a block to put on display. I will be building a spare for my CCKW, and will install all NOS Spare accessories on it just to tease my friends, what looks nice are the NOS AC Oil Filters w/decals.

Anybody here know the correct color for the oil filter housing and lid for a CCKW?? I went by Joel's info above, but it has come under fire and now he's clammed up

Hi nwmv,
I went by the illustrations in the TM 9-801 manuel. Although the illustrations are in black and white (of course) I've studied the shades of the colors of the engine components that are shown alot. I painted the oil filter body/cover in the same O.D. shade as I did the engine. The illustrations on page 221 and numerous other pages seem to me to be real clear on that. As you can see, the upper and lower straps of the oil filter, the breather for the oil filler pipe, radiator and horn are all black.
By the way, you're doing a GREAT job restoring that excellent CCKW of yours. Thank you very much for sharing your pictures with the rest of us.

Thanks Hammerhead, I just want to get it right the first time. I guess I could paint it any color I want as there seems to be no 100% proof of any one color. For now I will leave it as is. Sandblasted and primed 5 more rims today. Boy I tell ya these damn rims and tires are the biggest expense and the most labor of anything on these trucks

I uploaded (hopefully!) a couple of pictures of my CCKW's engine compartment. Right or wrong there's the colors I used.

I was trying to remember the saying about being from Missouri but for fear of messing it up I will forget it. Whether Hammerheads engine is right or wrong it sure is purdy and I would be proud to have it in my truck.
Cheers,
Barry
