My speedo cable was busted, very easy and cheap repair

Obtain generic "replacement speedo cable" from car parts store. (about $8)

Remove broken cable and carefully measure length

Cut off ends that engage with TX case and Speedo, drill out remains of old cable from end pieces to a depth of about 1/2 inch...the ends are different to the replacement cable

Cut replacement cable to correct length, remembering to add 1 inch for insertion of 1/2 inch into each endpiece.

You need to be accurate as too long or short wont work

Use 2 part epoxy to fasten end piece to new cable.

Still works six years later.

Very good tip ,I also have repaired a speedo cable on the CCKW the only difference is I recrimped the ends back on as opposed to bonding them on.

Keep up the good work ,it all helps .

On a "new to you" CCKW, you might want to remove both ends of the speedo cable and make sure it rotates then reinstall it into the speedo then turn it to see that the speedo is not frozen.

The reason I recommend this is that with Annie the crane CCKW-Schield Bantam unit, the speedo was frozen and the cable was one old tough bird. When the adapter on the split xfer case tried to rotate the cable, the speedo said no and the cable agreed. It twisted off the little metal drive bar in the adapter. It took me over an hour to fabricate a new one....
