The GMC CCKW

Just a general question. How noisy are the transfer cases in CCKW's? Are they just as loud as M35 2 1/2 transfer cases tend to be? With the whine and gear noise at road speeds or is this just part of the personality of the trucks. Or is this because I have a sloppy case with worn bearings and gears?
Now this noise is not something that makes you want to pull over and see if parts are coming out of the case. But if you drive the truck for a while at 40mph it will make your ears ring after you get out of the truck.
And if this is just a symtom of the beast, are there any known tricks on reducing the amount of noise coming from the transfer?
And before anyone asks the oil level in the case is good and has fresh oil. And no metal shavings or chunks when drained. Just a slight hint of metal flakes suspended in the oil like you get when you first set up a new ring and pinion set in your rear axel and the new gears have to run in and wear together. And no excessive play felt in the input or output shafts. This case was rebuilt in Norway going by the tag, with 136 miles on the odometer when I bought the truck and now showing 389 after this weekend. Let me know what you guys think.

Well Doc,..welcome to the Jimmy experience. That aint noise you can hear, thats her talkin to ya......and at 40 mph they got LOTS to say.

Take the pedal off the metal, and then she wont have quite so much to say. She'll thank you for it too.

I replaced my transfer case due to noise, it was making more of a clunky noise than a howl, the needle rollers in the upper gear shaft were so worn
at first I thought some had dropped out, but they had just worn so much below spec I could have slid 3 or 4 more into the 30 odd.

It was very obvious from initial inspection thru the top cover.
There are about 12 bearings in the Banjo box.
The top line of gears wear cause they work all the time due to the 1:1.15 ratio. I was very lucky to have snapped up a fully rebuilt tx case, along with some other parts, for $500

That noise was any speed. I believe you would be aware if this your problem as the noise is distinctly rumbly

I spoke to a fellow that had placed a Clark 5 speed in his Chev for more speed but ended up putting the 4 speed back because 5th gear was
unbearably noisy, despite rebuilds with new gears, and then another 5 speed, apprently they are just like this, maybe that is your noise

I'm going with Karoshi on this one

My CCKW will do 40 plus a little more
But it much prefers 25 to 35 MPH and thats where I drive it.
