Can I regulate my engine idle through the governor?

I am from Santiago,Rio Grande do Sul,BRAZIL.I bought a CCKW 353 banjo last year.I would like to know if can I regulate my engine idle through screw of governor.I gave up to try through the screw of carburetor.Thanks. :idea:

Hi Fernando
The govenor is a " limiter" it operates at WOT ( wide open throttle ) to prevent the driver from over reving the engine.
The screw on the carb itself is the MIXTURE screw
If you want to adjust idle speed you must use the screw on the throttle shaft
The procedure is outlined in the manual.
Do you have a manual yet ?

Hi Fernando,
There are 2 screws on the carb.

1) The idle mixture screw..on the body of the carb, really only controls
idle mixture NOT RPM, the vehicle will idle as long as this is
adjusted not all the way in or out. This screw is on the body of the carb.
( correct initial setting approximately screw all the way in, then 2 full turns out)

2) The idle SPEED screw...this is maybe the one you need to ADJUST.

This screw is located on the throttle lever, not the carb body.
If this screw is all the way out your vehicle may not idle, and may stall.
If u screw it in, the motor will idle as high as u want.

I dont know how much you know about carburettors, also mine is a Carter, not a Zenith, but should be almost the same.

Start your engine, sit on the fender and rev the motor using your hand to actuate the mechanism next to the carb. YOu will be able to see how it is
done if you are observant, the adjustment is quite sensitive.

Please feel free to ask detailed questions, even if there is a language difficulty, the problems are universal.

Hi folks! Thanks for your great helps.My carburetor is zenith.Its idle is very rough.I already turn in/out the two screw of the carburetor, but the engine puts out.It only stay running when I put my foot over the accelerator.Thats why I asked for other issue,the governor.

Fernando, the problem you describe is typical if the carburetor has had dirty fuel. If your fuel tank has been sending dirty fuel to the carburetor the passages within the carburetor may be blocked. Rebuild kits are available.

Hi Frenando this problem may not be your idle or mixture adjuctment but there may be a possibility that your intake manifold drawing in air ?????? around the ports...... to try this out whilst engine running spray wd40 or equivilant at each intake and you may hear engine note change????? do this before you start stripping carb.... good luck

Hi Kevin.When I was withdrawning from the air filter, I noticed that the carburetor was loosen.I turned in the screws and the idle becoming.Now it is all ok.Thanks again for your help. :idea:

Hi Fernando, very tidy looking truck...are you familiar with the
photo in "GMC The Universal Truck" by Boniface and Jeudy on
page 50 ?

It shows a GMC modified with boomerang suspension and 11.00x20
single wheels by the Engesa company, for the Brazillian Army,giving
capability of 85% slope climbing.
