Clutch Balance

I was assembling the clutch our CCKW today, and the tech. manual talks about lining up a "X" mark on the flywheel face with an "X" mark on the pressure plate. I could find the "X" on the fly wheel with no problem, but couldn't find it on the pressure plate anywhere. I could tell that the flywheel and the pressure plate had been drilled to be balanced. Is this going to be a big problem?

Hi Conn
As you know the reason for the marks is to keep the entire unit balanced.
All the pressure plates I've seen were marked.
Have you looked closely at the edge for any faint markings?
Is this an original pressure plate removed from this flywheel ?
If it indeed has no marks it could be that it is balanced in itself and therefore would not affect the flywheel balance regardless of it's position on the flywheel .
Hope this helps
John

Yeah, I cleaned it up real good and looked very closely, but couldn't find the mark. It's the same plate that we took off before I rebuilt the engine, but never thought about looking for it while I was taking it off. It must not have been stamped, or else I would have found it. The pressure plate is drilled so maybe it doesn't matter which way it's mounted. Thanks!
