Tipper Exhaust Pipe

Post by Conn »

While trying to assemble the exhaust pipe and muffler to our truck, we found that the pipe will not fit properly due to the dual PTO (for the winch and the tipping system). Should we bend the pipe, or is there another pipe? Have any of you had this problem? Any info. is much appreciated! Thanks!

Tipper Exhaust Pipe

Post by Cat Man »

Hello Conn's

The Ord 9 Parts Catalog list no less than 8 different exhaust configurations for the CCKW's. The pipe section from the Manifold flange to the muffler on the long wheel base models is shown running outboard, past the transmission PTO and then bending inward back further next to the transfer case to line up with the muffler centerline.

I'll take a look at mine Saterday. And get some detail photo's.

Did you buy an NOS kit or have the pipes custom made? What part numbers?

We bought a NOS kit from Vehicles of Victory, part #3659380. It's a good pipe with a lot of bends and sleeved at the endlet, but just doesn't fit our application of the CCKW. Our manual shows only two configurations (one for the standard and one for the water tanker). Thanks, Cat Man for the reply and we look forward to some photos! :)

:? Which side of the PTO...Does the pipe go?

I've taken some very interesting photos of a CCKW Bomb Truck's exhaust pipe (with the dual PTO box). There is a different style pipe than the standard and the water tanker pipes, and I think it's the one we need. Take a look!

Dump Truck Exhaust System

Post by Cat Man »

With the webmasters skill and assistance, I can again log in after the big crash.

Attached are photos of the Dump Truck exhaust details. On mine, you can see the exhaust pipe is outboard of the PTO. Not like the photo you posted.

Hope that helps. And sorry for the delay.

Exhaust Configuration

Post by Cat Man »

In the second to last photo, you will notice a drilled hole (I think it's drilled?) in the lowest point of the pipe from the manifold to the muffler.

Looks like it was located to provide a drain for condensation or water from fording?

Anyone else have this hole in the pipe? Is it a local field fix or MWO?

Thanks cat Man and Armydriver for the posts the photos! We have talked to Joel Gopan and Frank Van Rosenstiel and evidently NOS are hard to find (impossible?) does anyone out there in the CCKW land have a reproduction pipe for a tipper (with dual PTO) that they are happy with. If so, whee did they get it? You'd think some one would be producing them. Thanks again for the help!

There are just not that many dump CCKW's anymore, so no big demand for the unusual parts associated with them. This will have to be a fabricated part, which is OK in the world today as supplies of parts for these old trucks dry up.

The CCKW Dump uses the standard LWB exhaust system components, nothing special except for the Tail Pipe Hanger because of the absence of the Splashguard.
The Dual PTO has no influence on the Part Number of the Exhaust Pipe, as it is bent for all CCKWs with or without PTO. The pipe Mr. Conn used was copied wrong.
