The GMC CCKW

I am still negotiating for my CCKW and the deal is not done…but in the event it happens is there a list of places who carry most of the common stuff? By that I mean carb kits, breaks, lines and hoses, manuals, tires, and filters. I am an MVPA member as well, so I have those sources.

Anybody know someone in the Houston/Tomball Texas area that does sandblasting?

Parts Sources...One of the joys of collecting 65 year old vehicles .

While some prefer original stuff. I am not sure that is the way to go. Are NOS parts of the same quality and is the engineering of the material better today or not. The answer is sometimes yes sometimes now.

I am sure that the rubber carb parts and fuel lines will not be handle the formulation of the new gasohol and I would go with the new Viton stuff vs. older real rubber. Rust and condensation from sitting sealed in a box for 65 years can also be an issue

You may want to try Bob at Vehicles of Victory, he has a good original inventory of stuff with some scarce repops. He is a good guy and a very good source. http://www.vehiclesofvictory.com/

My second best source is shows. Aberdeen, Redball, Weare, and Lowell. The Rallys have stuff that is "found" after sitting a corner for many years. It is a blast to search.

Ebay also has some stuff but it is usually expensive.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your CCKW purchase! It will be a blast to have and drive. Actually I also enjoy tinkering with mine much to my wife's amazement! I've heard numerous times "what could be so fun messing with an old truck for three hours?!?"

As far as parts, get all the reprinted manuals (Portrayal Press for example is a good source) and you will have the GM numbers. You'll be amazed how many of the common parts you can get at your local NAPA store. Give them the original GM number and they can cross reference for your part. From NAPA I've gotten the front and rear brake hoses (which I highly recommend you change!), points, plugs, condenser, rotor, distributor etc. Peter Debella Jeep Parts also has CCKW parts from which I've gotten things like ignition wire set with proper ends, NOS radiator cap, gaskets, and a few other parts. Of course there is Franks CCKW which has just about anything else you would need. The problem is there is you have the international shipping and Frank isn't the speediest shipper. After restoring an MB and GPW, and having access to more than a dozen parts sources, it's alot bigger challenge to find CCKW parts. Hopefully yours is mainly complete and just needs restoration. Please keep us informed on your progress on the sale and restoration. Also there is a great bunch of guys on this forum that are very knowledgeable so don't hesitate to ask. Good hunting, Hammerhead

When I restored Betty Boop sources for CCKW parts were scarce , especially body parts. The cab parts I needed came from a friend in
Sweden, then this great site came along and it has opened doors for the hobby not seem before Bill established this site.
I hate to say this, but some stuff can be found from time to time on Ebay. As previously mentioed by Bill Vehicles of Victory is a good site for parts, a lot of engine parts can be found at NAPA as Hammerhead pointed out. Good luck and enjoy the fun of driving a big truck.
