Working on our truck and trying to get the eletrical system working right. Should a early 45 CCKW be positive or negatve ground? My TM 9-801 says negative, but my GMC maintenance manual says positive. Want to get it right, your help is greatly appritiated. I know that a lot of 1940s 6-volt systems were positive ground. Thanks! A 1945 truck would be negative ground

Only early trucks were + ground

You can look at the data plate on the voltage regulator it will say/read pos or neg grd.
Also your coil will be wired to match as well ie; pos terminal ( on the coil ) to the points = pos ground or neg terminal to the points = negative ground
But as Dr Duece posted only the real early stuff is pos ground.

Hope this helps
John
