NDT Tires

Last summer a bunch of us got together and did a bulk purchase of Firestone 750 x 20 NDT tires with flaps and tubes from Universal Tire. I bought 11 for my CCKW. We got a good deal and delivery to Weare was free saving even more money and sales taxes.

The end of last week I mounted the tires on my refinished CCKW rims.

I am extremely impressed with the look of the tires. They look very much the part of a 40's era truck. Except for the required single DOT batch/lot number and DOT wear bar in the tread area there is little or no other DOT spec garbage molded on to the side wall of the tire. In fact if you put the DOT batch number on the side opposite viewing it would be difficult to tell that it is a modern tire.

The 2 year old 900x16 Denman's on my WC-54 are covered with modern spec text molded onto the sidewall. It covers 75% of the sidewall area of the tire. Not very "period" looking.

The sidewall of the Firestones contain much the same information that I see on one of my WWII original tires off one of the other trucks. It also has the "F" Firestone logo with the words "gum sealed" on either side.

It is a nice touch to a restoration.

I am very happy with my purchase.

However I am not happy where the price of oil has now driven the tire price to... :(. Looks like it will cost about 2 times in tires what I paid for the trailer that 4 will be going on.

I am still desperately searching for these firestone tires for my truck. I need a full set of 11 tires as well. A dealer here in Germany offered these to me for a price that made me almost collapsing. 319 € each. Thats 472 $ !!! He said they must be imported from USA. If anyone knows a cheaper source in Europe, please tell me.

Regards,

Chris

Hello Chris,

I don't know if you like new made in 'Somewhere east' tires. I bought a set of 11 tires by Reomie in The Netherlands

http://www.reomie.com/.

The brand is Omaha. they cost around 130 euro's. I am driving for about 3 years on them. Here's a picture:
