I have one windshield wiper that is in rough shape and the other is missing.
Is it possible to rebuild my current one?
Are replacement ones available?

they are the same as jeep wiper motors, all he usual vendors should have them.
You can clear and repair them ...but.... new ones are more dependable :)
hope this helps

Is there anyone you would reccomend?

What is a reasonable price for a pair?

It would seem there are now electric motor conversions from the air powered ones. Are these a better way to go?

In my opinion original is the only way :)
But...in your case....what would your conversion have had ? Vac i'm sure
Do you subscribe to MVM ?
Every "jeep" vendor has them avail. although not cheap.!
B Mullins is in Texas I would try him first.

Er ah um WW2 Jeeps had manual wipers as in no motors. At the end of WW2, they had a kit to add vacume wipers. I am not sure what motors those were though.

As to what was in the original German truck, who knows. I only know of one original Krupp truck and it is in Russia. I have tried contacting them but no luck. A friend has a Mercedes so I will ask him. The trucks were built to the same specs but had many differences in the finish of them.

At a minimum I want vac operated ones. I don't want to be going down the highway having to crank them back and forth. This vehicle will be used at reenactments so it will go out in the rain.

Brent Mullins is not far up the road from me. The only thing I don't like about his site is, there are no pictures of the parts. You have to know what you are looking for.

I have bought MVM a few times in the past. I guess I should get a subscription now.

How much is "expensive"? I am beginning to truly dread that word!

I bought an NOS jeep vac wiper motor from.. I think Joel.. in 2001...and the price may have been near a 100 bucks
Geo.Baxter is advertizing some this month in MVM for $150.00.. Geo. ad states it is the same as M37
Late jeeps had the same motor
CCKWs share much of the same windsheild componants of any "open cab " ww2 vehicles, ie the gasket between the inner and outer frame is the same as DodgeWC ,also the inner windsheild is the same as 4 ton Dia T I haven't checked but I would assume their wiper motor would interchange as well

Well thats not cheap! Why can't the answer be.. "Oh those are dirt cheap, go to ...." :)

They will have to go further down on the restoration list !

Yes, but as I recall there is nothing that I saw that would not make them work for an open.

I had my Chevy closed cab units rebuilt by a Trico expert.

He can be found at http://www.wiperman.com

Did an excellent job. He used basically the shell. He replaced all the knobs and installed a new shaft on one all for the price posted.

It should save you a minimum of $50 over new. Turn around time was 1 week.

I will be sending my open cab ones out over the winter.

Rob does nice work and the last time I had my CCKW wiper motors done, it was around $80 each - plus a 3 year warranty on them. I have used him for a bunch of my wiper motors and I do recommend him.

Bad working wiper motors => old grease

My wiper motors where working but at verry slow pace. If the engine was put to work (up hill or accelerating) the wipers stopped. One motor even didn't make its stroke complete. so it stoped midway.

In the vacuum chamber is grease as a lubricant, if this is old it becomes hard. If you open the wiper and remove the old grease and put new in the wiper motor functions as new. It is easy to do by your self on the kitchen table.

You could bury the wiper motor with me if my wife caught me working on it on the kitchen table. I will stick to the garage. :D

I went and had a look at mine more closely. While a little stiff, it does work by hand. I didn't notice at first, but the arm is there.

On Debella jeep parts CCKW page ( http://www.debellajeepparts.com/CCKW2.htm ), they have the motors. It is marked as "left only". It seems to have an extra section on one side. Is this the same as the jeep ones?

The motor pictured is a Chevy/CCKW closed cab model. The little "pod" with the 2nd switch is to adjust the amount of vacuum and thus the speed. Not sure if the open cab arm will fit on that motor.

Thanks Bill.

If I got one of those with an arm and then switched mine to the right side, it should work out.

What size and type of wiper blade goes on the arm?

On my closed cab Chevy it used a special arm affectionately called a grasshopper set up. Basically it looks like the leg off a grasshopper so it will clear the opening front windscreen without breaking off.

I will see if I can find a pic tomorrow.

Dibella has Grasshopper arms too.
