If I swap out a regular speedometer for a metric one, do I need to make any adjustment at the transmission or get a new cable?

Are there any implications to the changed odometer reading?

My CCKW352B1 was modified to a metric speedo by the Norwegians.

I would suspect that the parts are easily available in the UK and Europe as many collectors will have changed back to Imperial.

u can use generic cable

but try to retain the original cable ends

why would u change speedos unless the old one is broken?

very unlikely to get booked speeding!

and the dash plate that shows max speed for gear changes would no longer be helpful, unless it is metric as well

I am making a German truck conversion. So I may be the only CCKW owner who WANTS the Nato versions of everything.

I drive by sound rather than the speedometer so I rarely look at the speedo for gear changes. I can make a data plate with the equivelent speeds. I know original data plates are sought after by other collectors.

I have the current speedo cable and speedometer in the truck. It works just fine. Can I pop out the current one and pop in the metric one?

Before anyone points out the obvious, I know the dash layout is nothing like the Krupp truck that I am building. If you think the original CCKW instruments are expensive, try pricing the Opel Blitz and similar ones. That is way down on the list of things to replace.

As many as I know you can swap to a metric speedo without changing anything else. I have a metric speedo on my DiamondT truck and nothing else has been replaced, I believe.



If you look at the speedo you will notice that the radius of the pointer from 0 to 60 MPH is the same as for 0 to 105KmPH, only the scale and the “zero of the pointer” are different. Sorry for my poor English : maybe I’m the only one who can understand what I just wrote
