Fenders

I was just studying the Ord-9 manuals for the CCKW and the Chevy. There are two sets of fenders listed; a right and a left for each the open and the closed cabs. The Ord-9 for the CCKW, CCW and AFKWX (SNL G508) dated 15 July 1945 reads:

2171433 Fender, Front, Left, Assembly (use with closed cabs)
2171432 Fender, Front, Right, Assembly (use with closed cabs)

2188957 Fender, Front, Left, Assembly (use with open cabs)
2188956 Fender, Front, Right, Assembly (use with open cabs)

The Ord-9 for the Chevy (SNL G-85 vol. IV & G506) dated 25 June 1945 reads:

3672615 Fender, Front, L.H.
3660260 Fender, Front, R.H.

Naturally the numbers for the Chevy fenders would be different – but are they different from the GMC fenders? And is there a recognizable difference between the open and closed cab fenders?

Thanks!
Daniel

It may be a difference on the left fenders since the early ones had no Blackout drive light bracket. But I never noticed a difference between closed cab and open cab cckw’s fenders :?

The CCKW fenders have a reinforcing piece under the front lip, while the "chevy" fenders never did.

To add to what John C said:

CCKW fenders tend to rot at the front due to the reinforcing collecting crap thrown up from the front tires.

Chev fenders tend to crack along the front edge just outside of the brushguard due to the lack of reinforcement.
