The GMC CCKW

Hello All,

The current radiator being longer than that of origin, the previous owner has remove the support which usually is on the base. To be able to hold the front grill, he has welded a bar of steel which lean on the frame. Here is a picture of this retrofit and you will see the way this bar was welded what prevents from crossing the starting crank.



I imagine that the radiator is longer, the original support has been skip off. If it's possible, someone could send some pictures of the front grill of its Chevrolet and explain me how is supported by the bottom?

The grill is NOT supported on the bottom.

The grill is attached to the radiator mount via 4 plates sticking forward. The radiator mount is attached to the 1st crossmenber via a radiator mounting kit which included a U-Bolt on early ones and springs to allow the truck to twist. The radiator mount is also braced via heavy steel arms at an angle back to the plates under the cab that the army added to the mil GM trucks.

I've got several good t/o radiators
I think I still have 1 shroud avail.
I did have the radiator support/grill mounts I will check thursday and see what I've got
I think I also have the baffle
Do you need braces or the radiator support rod ?
Have you got your manuals from Portrayal Press yet?

BTW:

The radiator mounting shroud (RMS) is shorter on the Chev and so is the radiator. You can install a chev radiator in a cckw, but not the other way around.

The CCKW RMS also has a removable top to facilitate radiator removal. When I finish my chev K51 panel, I am going to modify a CCKW RMS to the chev dimensions (remove a couple inches on each side and reweld) to make radiator maintenance easier.

Thanks John et Stephen for the tips. John, keep your rigs warm and as soon as I return at Notre-Dame-du-Lac where my truck is, I will check what parts I need. About the parts list manual, I ordered one copy at Portrayal Press yesterday and I should receive it next week.

I think I have the short plates/arms from the radiator if you need them.
