main crank shaft pulley?
This is my first GMC (270 cid) I was just wondering what holds the damper/pulley in place. I was able to just work it off in no time. There apears to be no threads in the crank end? Is this normal

Yes this is correct, there is no bolt to secure pulley/hub to crankshaft, just a interference fit.
You normally have to fit a puller to withdraw hub, if it came off very easy, you may need to investigate, one check is the key thats fits in crankshaft slot, ensure not worn by hub being loose.
